Components of a Typical First Session


  • Length:
    • One hour
  • How to dress:
    • Comfortable, loose or flexible clothing
    • Shoes will be removed so wear comfortable socks, bare feet are welcome

     

    Client focused

  • Introductory discussion includes:
    • Client needs, goals and desired results
    • Number of treatments required:  research with traumatized clients has shown 4 to 11 sessions, the Upledger Institute states 3 to 6 sessions
    • Identification of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual components
    • Seeking to identify and work with the underlying cause(s) of any difficulty (iceberg analogy)
    • Information about the subconscious mind (body memory) which controls 99.99% of behavior
    • Therapies and methods, including bodywork, which will be used to access the subconscious
  • During the session the client:
    • Is invited to the massage table
    • lies on his/her back, fully clothed (babies, children and those with physical restrictions are accommodated in a flexible manner)
    • Has an option to be covered with a blanket
    • Is assured of comfort and safety at all times
    • Is informed of all techniques and their intended purpose
    • May participate in dialogue, experience silent energy work or a combination of both

    Complete Relaxation and Safety

  • Conclusion involves:
    • Sitting on the edge of the massage table
    • Drinking a glass of water
    • Reviewing and clarifying session techniques
    • Answering any client questions
    • Identification of improvements in physical/mental/emotional well-being
    • Information about after-care
    • Planning frequency of further sessions
